Apple has released 4 models this year. iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are the default size iPhones, along with two more new devices, iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max.  Apple claimed there was no difference between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini except for their size and their price, which is really arouse my interest. Should I buy iPhone 12 Mini to save $100? Or need I worry about its battery life, because it’s so much smaller?

How’s the battery life of iPhone 12 Mini?

iPhone 12 Mini comes with a small body, which means it has a significantly tinier battery of 2227mAh. Notwithstanding Apple announces the battery life of iPhone 12 Mini is only two hours less than its larger sibling, iPhone 12, when play back videos. It sounds acceptable of 15 hours. However, According to the information from Apple blog 9to5 Mac, iPhone 12 Mini ‘s battery capacity is 21% smaller than the iPhone 12, while iPhone 12 has a 9.5% smaller battery than last year’s flagship iPhone 11. As we know, iPhone 11’s battery doesn’t have very good reputation.

And iPhone 12 series are the first iPhones to support 5G connectivity. 5G is fifth-generation cellular wireless and the successor to 4G.  It offers a lot of open bandwidth for blazing fast data transfer speeds. An article from MacRumors reports that battery tests suggest the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro see much faster battery drain when connected to 5G networks compared to when connected to LTE networks. For the least battery capacity iPhone this year, iPhone 12 Mini, it’s a bad news. 

If you don’t want to meet the situation that your friend, an owner of an iPhone 12, has 25% battery and you have only 10%, take a second consideration whether the smaller phone is the right choice. Does iPhone 12 series support fast charging?

How to extend battery life of iPhone 12 Mini?

First of all, update your iOS 14 to the newest version. Some battery issues might be caused by a buggy released. And the company will release bug fixes via a firmware update.

Then, identify apps draining battery. You can find the information in Settings > Battery. After find them out, you have several methods to solve the problem, such as delete the not-used apps, or force close background-running apps that you don’t use at that time.

Disable Location Services of some apps. It can have a major impact on battery life. Open the Settings app on the iPhone and navigate to Privacy > Location Services. You can either completely disable location services or even better, you can set While using the App so that an app will only use your device location when you open the app.
